There aren't many pictures from shooting because when we were there we got straight on with the filming and didn't want to waste any time. We tried to work as productively as possible whilst filming and therefore didn't have much time to stop and take photos. These are the only ones we got:

Audience Research Feedback
For my audience research i asked a number of questions to 7 members of the public. 5 of these 7 people were within my target audience and the other 2 were of an older generation that my film wouldn't initially be targeted at. All 7 people were asked the same questions, some were about their consumption of film, how they view target audience of different media products and what they thought of my idea.
What have you learnt?
I learnt that people within my target audience much preferred streaming a film to actually going to the cinema or buying a DVD. Also i learnt that most of the people i interviewed said that they go to see a film depending on what they see online about the film or what their friends say about it.
What was the general consensus towards your own idea?
All the feedback on my idea was very positive, many people said that only having one character in the opening made it a bit more intriguing and mysterious, this was good for me because i spent a long time working out wether i should include more characters in my opening. Also a couple of people said that him being alone might give them the idea that he's lonely and possibly troubled, this is exactly what i wanted to convey. I was also surprised to see that both the adults i interviewed who weren't in my target audience said that it was an idea and an opening the mint attract them to go and see the film.
What developments/changes will you be making to your own idea based on these opinions?

The setting i am using helps to construct a mise en scene by creating a very dark atmosphere. The graffiti and abandoned look of the locations in the city help to create a dark and menacing environment which is what i want. Also the graffiti fits in and is very much associated which the skateboarding and youth culture and image i am trying to represent in my film. The locations i have chosen are very typical of where you expect a tearaway teenager to be.

Likes - Skateboarding, Hip Hop music, smoking, drinking, drugs, hanging out with mates, parties, getting into trouble.
Dislikes - Police, posh and rich people, people trying to tell him what to do, politicians.
History - Got excluded from school in year 9 and never properly bothered to attend another one afterwards. His mum left his dad when he was 6 due to him being an alcoholic and he hasn't seen him since. Got into drugs when he was 16 and now he spends most of his time out drinking, skateboarding and doing drugs with friends. When he was 9 he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and wasn't completely cured until he was 12. Ever since he has hated the world and this was when he started to go of the rails at school.
Personality Traits - Can have a very short temper. He is angry and reasonably aggressive to everyone who isn't his friends or mum. Around his friends he's quite funny and jokey however to others he comes across as very dark and intimidating.
Friendship Groups - Has a pretty tight group of 7 good friends. Has other friends but these are who he mainly hangs around with. Has a fellow best friend called Tyler who is one of the reasons why he got into drugs and has been a big influence on his road to rebellion. He sees Tyler as a brother and a positive thing in his life however others such as his mum and the college he attends can see that Tyler is leading Reece on a bad path in life.
Influences - His mother is a big influence in his life however he still finds himself on a path that his mother doesn't agree with. Is very much influenced by Hip Hop music especially the rebellious attitude it can give out. Also heavily influenced by skateboarding culture and this comes across in his clothing.

Costume - Reece will be dressed in black jeans with a black jacket on and beaten up black skateboarding shoes. His costume is very dark to represent the darkness of his surroundings and how they effect him and to also represent his dark and rebellious nature. He will also wear a white hat to show that the is some good in him as white is often associated with good and hope.

All costumes have been sourced through the actors own wardrobe. I especially chose this actor because he has a good understanding of youth culture and is associated with skateboarding and the general scene i am portraying in my film. This meant that carefully chosen pieces of his usual attire gave me the perfect costume for my character and made my actor look even more natural in the role.

Prop List
Seen very briefly as main character (Reece Scott) picks it up as he leaves his room.

The majority of my opening if filmed out and about on the streets, therefore very few props were used and most of the objects seen in the opening scene are how they are in real life and not a prop, therefore my prop list is minimal.

Casting
There will only be one character in my 2 minute opening. Because of my choice to include no dialogue in my opening it made casting much easier, if i would have included dialogue i would have needed to find an actor who was good at acting and could get into a role they may not necessarily be like very effectively. Therefore i only had to find someone who could fit the role of a 17 year old rebellious teenager. The only real detail i needed from them is to be able to skateboard so as to make my opening look more realistic when they skateboarded. Even though my casting didn't need to be very specific i believe i found the perfect actor to play my character. In the process of finding the perfect actor to fit my role i had to audition two actors.
This is the first actor that i auditioned to play Reece Scott. His name is Joe Kirkendall. He lives in Hethersett which is one of the locations for my filming and skateboards, both these factors are why i auctioned him to play the role. In addition he is very familiar with the youth culture i am trying to portray and is at the same age of my character and going through similar experiences.
However i also auditioned someone else, his name is Jack Cooper and i decided to use him as my actor in my opening to play Reece Scott. He is a friend of mine who lives near me and i know him mainly through skateboarding, this immediately made him a good candidate for the role. Furthermore he has the look and style that i wanted of a kind of dark and street teenager. He is also very familiar with the youth and street culture that i am trying to portray in my film, therefore it was easier for him to be natural infant of the camera and help me to create what i wanted. Also as he lived near my chosen locations so filming would be easy to arrange.

Filming Review
I only filmed on one day - Thursday 28th of January.
Review of Filming:
What Worked Well?
The locations were very good for what i wanting to achieve and looked very good on the camera. All locations were easily accessible meaning filming was easy on the day and gave us lots of time to re-shoot scenes to get them just right. Another thing that worked well was how comfortable my actor was whilst filming, this means all the shots look very natural and realistic.
What Didn't Work as Well?
One thing which didn't work as well was that because the scenes in the city were shot at evening/night, this meant that often lighting was poor so we had to pick the camera shots very carefully so that you could actually see what was going on. Also because i chose to shoot some of my sevens in the city it was reasonably busy and often this meant that some scenes we had to wait to shoot or shoot multiple times so that people weren't in the shot.
Anything That Might/Does Need to be Filmed Again?
One short scene does need to be filmed again. It is a shot of Reece (the main character) walking down some steps into an underpass. This was a very busy place so we had to wait a while to get the shot, once we did however we failed to notice that on the floor is the shadow of the camera on the tripod. Its not very noticeable however its a silly mistake and it needs to be filmed again. It is a relatively easy scene to film again as its very short and simple plus it was done at night in very normal weather conditions so it will be easy to replicate. It is also an easy location to get to for me and my actor therefore it won't be difficult to arrange to shoot again.
Did Everything Run Smoothly?
Yes everything went very well, apart from the one scene that needs shooting again and the city being busy.
Any Changes You Are Making?
No the filming went as planned and no changes were made during filming.
Any Ideas You Got as You Went Along?

Script - First Draft
Due to my decision to have no dialogue in my 2 minute opening my script is very minimal, it only contains brief directions on what my actor should be doing physically.
Location Research
These are some images of the location that I am going to film my film opening at. I am also going to use a friends house to film the beginning of my opening however I knew for definite I was going to film there. These images are of locations I found whilst researching and looking for a place to film my opening. These fit perfectly with what I want to do as its quite a run down dark looking area, especially at night in the dark which is when I wish to film the majority of my opening. The run down look that this area has portrays what I want it to perfectly, as soon as you see the graffiti and dark underpass you think of a rough place, you think of a deprived social class and even of poverty. This is exactly what I wanted the setting for my opening to represent. I wanted it to let the audience know that the film is about the dark, gritty life of youth in deprived areas of England. Also the graffiti in the area fits in very well with the youth culture that I am also trying to portray in my opening. I feel this location sets the mood for my film very well.
Weather isn't too much of a problem as I plan to film at night so as long as it isn't raining or incredibly windy the weather shouldn't effect filming. There are also many other similar locations around this location so if I have plenty of areas to work with if I need more or there's a sudden problem with this exact location.
The location is called Anglia square and is an old shopping centre located near the centre of Norwich. It is very easy to get to for both me and my two cast members, it is just a short bus journey which was a big benefit to the location.
Apart from the very start of my opening set in one of the characters houses and the underpass that a quick scene will be shot in all my filming will be done in exterior locations. This is because the portrayal of youth I am showing is that of 'life' on the streets and the classic image of youth culture that this entails. Therefore the most effective place to show my characters is on the streets doing as they please. However I am making sure the film starts at one of the characters houses to show that often this negative image that comes of teenagers on the streets can stem from problems or trouble at home and this is one of the themes that would be explored if I was to make the rest of the film.

My Finalised Idea
I am just about to start filming my opening and my idea for my film has changed. My original idea was to start the film with a teenager going to meet some friends and being stabbed on the way. The rest of the film would have been set up to be a crime thriller about catching the criminal. As I came closer to filming my piece decided that this idea be quite hard to film effectively and to a good standard. Also looking at it more in depth made me realise that it wasn't a very powerful or engaging opening to a film or a very realistic one. My idea now is much more realistic and will focus on the life of a troubled teenager as he battles with the harsh realities of life on the 'streets' and explores into drugs and drink. The opening will simply be my main character leaving his house to go skateboarding (like my original idea) however during his journey I will put some narration over the top of the characters voice introducing himself and speaking briefly about his exploits in drugs and alcohol and displaying his 'don't give a fuck' attitude. This combined with some good and varied camera shots and angles of him skateboarding can be used to great effect in the opening. If the film were to be carried on it would follow the character and his experiences and the theme of problems at home effecting choices made out of the home by teenagers in this age. This is an idea I believe I can achieve more effectively and to me would appeal more as a realistic and engaging opening to a film.
Shooting Schedule
All Filming Will Take Place on the 28th of January.
28th January:
4:15- Start filming bedroom scene and Reece leaving his house. Filmed in Hethersett at my actors (Jack Cooper) house.
5:00- Go into Norwich to film all outside scenes (underpass scene and skateboarding around). All outside scenes filmed at Anglia Square and in the area around Anglia Square, which is located in Norwich.
I organised this so that as soon as we had finished filming the few shots at the house in Hethersett we would get the bus into Norwich where we would walk a short 10 minutes to get to Anglia Square to film the skateboarding scenes.
This wasn't too difficult to organise as both locations where very easy for me and my actor to get to. Furthermore due to it being January it got dark fairly early which was good for me because the skateboarding scenes needed to be shot whilst it was dark. This meant that filming didn't need to be filmed very late, therefore making it easier to organise as it gave me and my actor more time to film in the city. The only difficulty i found in organising it was having enough time to film at the house in Hethersett before it got dark as it needed to be light for that scene.

Based on My Idea so Far
What ways would your target audience ideally be able to consume your film?
Hopefully i would be able to bring my target audience to the cinema to consume my film. However due to my film being targeted at young adults and older teenagers (ages 16 to about 30) i would release it on DVD but also make sure it is on streaming and online websites such as Netflix as this is how many of my target audience will watch films.

Plot Synopsis
The plot synopsis for my opening is a teenage boy leaving his house on his skateboard and skateboarding to go and meet some friends. On his way to meet his friends the teenager comes across a car parked in the middle of the road and as he goes up to the car a hooded figure comes up behind him and stabs him.
If I were to make it into a whole film it would take the form of a crime thriller with quite a dark feel to it. It would be about trying to find the murderer and why he committed the crime.

My Idea So Far
My idea so far is simply a teenager leaving his house and going to meet some friends on his skateboard at night. On his way to meet them he comes across a smashed up car parked in the middle of the street, he stops and walks over to the car. As he looks in the window a hooded figure comes up behind him and in the reflection of the car window you see the teenager get stabbed. The film title then comes up se3tting up the rest of the film to be an investigation as to why the boy was killed, who killed him and why was the car there; was it set up or was it meant for someone else?
I would like to work in a pair for my idea so as to share the work load and to have a range of skills whilst making the opening however I will work on my own if needs be as I already have quite a clear idea of what I want to achieve and people may not share this with me.
My film will be a drama/crime/thriller genre and will have quite a dark feel to it. This is because these types of films are ones that really appealed to me and its something I believe I can achieve to a good standard.
I plan for my film to follow a traditional narrative, starting at the beginning withy a start, middle and end. This is because I feel for my idea it would fit better for it to be in this narrative structure.
I will only use two characters in my opening; the teenager and the murderer (whose face won't be seen). This is because the teenage will be stabbed in the opening therefore I think that if I focus almost the whole of the opening on him it could get people to feel for him and get a feeling that he could be an important character and then when he gets killed it will not only be a bit of a shock and a thrill but it will draw the audience in to want to watch the rest of the film. Before any other character has even been introduced this character has died meaning the audience will feel like they deserve and really want to know why and by who. Also because I have limited access to actors it will easier to just cast two characters.
I plan to use only a couple of locations. The teenagers house which he leaves and then some very dark lit, rough, deserted streets.
I definitely don't want to do a comedy style film because I believe it will be too hard to do. it would be very difficult to make it genuinely funny and therefore I don't think it would end up looking very good.
I do not want to use dialogue because I don't think you need dialogue in an opening scene3 and because I wont be able to use proper actors any dialogue could end up making the film look very amateurish and poorly acted. Furthermore I believe having no dialogue helps to build up tension and create some mystery about what is going on.
I do plan to use a soundtrack or music in my opening to help create tension and build up suspense. I don't yet know what music I will use but I plan to use something quite dark and sinister.
I won't be breaking the fourth wall in my opening because the character who will be in it doesn't need to connect with the audience. Also fourth wall breaks are more commonly used in comedy's and documentary style films and my opening wont follow either of these styles.
No narration will be used for my opening this is because I don't need the story to explained or introduced over what's happening, I plan to try and use a bit of mystery to draw people in and narration would go against that.

I won't be breaking the fourth wall in my opening because the character who will be in it doesn't need to connect with the audience. Also fourth wall breaks are more commonly used in comedy's and documentary style films and my opening wont follow either of these styles.
No narration will be used for my opening this is because I don't need the story to explained or introduced over what's happening, I plan to try and use a bit of mystery to draw people in and narration would go against that.
I plan to use a wide range of camera shots and angles, mainly whilst the teenage character is skateboarding through the streets.
